Hello from Takayama! This is Kado from the MACHIYA RESIDENCE INN Takayama team.
With the Takayama Spring Festival just behind us, the Hida area is turning green and the weather is warming up. If you are planning a visit to Japan soon, this is a great time to visit Takayama and surrounding Hida area.
One place I personally recommend is the Takayama Alps Observation Park, often called Sky Park locally. Located on a hill above the city, it offers wide, open views of the Northern Alps, including Mount Norikura and the Hotaka mountain range. On a clear day, you can see across both the city and the surrounding mountains. From here, you get a real sense of just how close Takayama sits to these massive peaks, and on a good day you might even spot Mount Yari and Mount Yakedake in the distance.
The view also changes noticeably with the seasons. Winter brings snow-covered peaks, summer turns the hills green, and autumn adds foliage to the mix. Whenever you visit Takayama, it’s worth making time for. The park tends to be quiet, which is a nice change of pace from the more visited parts of the city.
If you want to know how to access the Takayama Alps Observation Park, feel free to ask the MACHIYA INNS & HOTELS staff during your stay!
