‘Asatoyuu Asana’ Machiya House: a private holiday house (vacation rental) located just a 1-minute walk from Takayama Station. Within walking distance of Takayama’s Old Town and the historic Takayama Jinya, this traditional Japanese machiya is reserved for one group per day, offering a spacious retreat featuring an open atrium, linking the living areas with a spacious, open design. Inspired by the natural beauty of Takayama city, seasonal motifs and design details are woven into the interiors to create a calm and welcoming atmosphere.

On the first floor, a living–dining area with a large round table overlooks a courtyard garden with a tall ‘matsu’ pine tree, while the kitchen is fully equipped for both short and extended stays. The bathroom, accented in deep green tones that reflect Takayama’s lush mountain landscapes, features an overhead shower for a refreshing retreat.

Upstairs, discover two Japanese-style bedrooms with exposed wooden beams, alongside a Western-style bedroom with two queen beds, a sofa, and a desk. With air conditioning and floor heating throughout, Asatoyuu Asana can comfortably accommodate up to 8 guests, making it ideal for families, groups, or longer visits.

For group or family stays, reserve the neighboring Asatoyuu Yuuna Machiya House to accommodate up to 16 guests together.

Bedding Set-up: The number of beddings prepared will match the number of guests you have made a reservation for, and not the maximum capacity.

To make a request for a specific bedding set-up, you must contact MACHIYA RESIDENCE INN at least 2 days before your check-in date. Up to 2 children (5-years-old and younger) staying under our “Children’s Policy” will be required to share a bedding with another guests.

Is this a hotel in Takayama?: No, this is not a hotel in Takayama. Our machiya homes are self-catering, private Japanese-style holiday homes (vacation rentals), which are reserved exclusively for 1 group per day. (Guests will not be sharing the house with any other guests). As there are no staff on-site at the house, our traditional Japanese machiya homes are perfect for travelers interested in immersing themselves in local culture in Takayama!

If you require assistance during your stay, our friendly staff are available via email or telephone between 10AM~7PM. (Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day.)
Please note that as this is a self-catering holiday homes, and not a hotel, housekeeping during your stay is available for guests who stay 4 night or more.
However, our staff are available for garbage pick-up, to provide additional towels during your stay, and more. We also encourage our guests to reuse bath towels to help us reduce the consumption of water.
