Reservations

How do I make a reservation?
We accept reservations up to 6 months in advance. Reservations can be made via the following methods:

1. Send us an e-mail (takayama@machiya-hotel.com)
2. Make a reservation via our website
3. Call us directly at (+81) 577-57-7000
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellation of a reservation may be subject to a cancellation fee. Please take a look at our cancellation policy listed in our Terms & Conditions for more details.
How can I make the payment?
We ask for full accommodation payment upon check-in.
Payment can be made via cash or credit card.

All payments will be charged in Japanese Yen.
May I make a reservation on behalf of another guest?
Yes. When making your reservation, please let us know the name of the guest who will be staying at THE MACHIYA HOTEL TAKAYAMA, as well as the guests' contact number and email address.

If someone other than a guest checking-in will be making the payment, please ensure that they are aware of all reservation and payment details.
Does the rate include tax and service charge?
Yes. All rates shown on our webpage include 10% consumption tax (incl. sales tax, VAT, excise duty, etc.) and service fees.
Is the Hotel suitable for the elderly?
There are no age restrictions for guests staying at THE MACHIYA HOTEL TAKAYAMA.

We offer both Western-style and Japanese-style rooms on both the 1F and 2F. However, please note that THE MACHIYA HOTEL TAKAYAMA is a renovated two-story traditional Japanese building with no elevator access.

Is the Hotel suitable for children?
There are no age restrictions for guests staying with THE MACHIYA HOTEL TAKAYAMA.

Children 5 years of age and under may share a bed with another adult with no additional charge.
In this case, please process the number of children as "0" when making your reservation, and contact our staff know prior to your arrival. (Up to 2 children, 5 years of age and younger, may stay free of charge.)

Please be aware that we may not be able to make room adjustments for child-proofing.
Can we have more than the maximum number of guests in one machiya room?
Due to the Japanese Fire Service Act issued by Takayama City,
we are unable to accept more than the maximum number of guests indicated for each room.
Can I change the number of guests after making a reservation?
Yes. You may change the number of guests up to 2 days prior to your check-in date.
For changes made after payment has been completed, additional payment or refund will be made during your check-in.

Your Stay

Can I leave my luggage somewhere before check in?
Yes. You may leave your luggage at the hotel reception desk between 9:00AM~9:00PM.
For guests who have reserved our private machiya villa (THE MACHIYA HANARE), please contact our hotel staff ahead of time.
What time is Check-in / Check-out?
Check-in: 3:00 PM ~
Check-out: ~11:00 AM
What time is the front desk open?
Our front desk is available 24 hours a day. You may also contact our staff via your in-room telephone.
Can I check-in late?
Yes. We accept late check-ins.

Please contact our front desk ahead of your arrival with your approximate arrival time if you will be checking in after 9:00 PM.
Are Yukata (Japanese sleepwear) provided?
Yes. We have will prepare one yukata per guest.
How many children can stay without any charge?
We allow up to two (2) children, 5 years of age and under, to stay for free (when sharing a bed with an adult). Meals are not included.
Do you offer breakfast?
Yes. We offer both breakfast-included plans, and plans with no breakfast.
If you are interested in adding a breakfast option to your reservation, please contact our staff directly. Breakfast reservations can be made up until 9:00PM (the day before).

Are pets allowed at the hotel?
No. We do not allow pets inside of our hotel.
Do you offer rooms with kitchens?
We offer one kitchen-included room: our private villa, THE MACHIYA HANARE. For more information regarding this private villa, please take a look at the following page: THE MACHIYA HANARE
What amenities are included?
All guests will be provided with towels, linen, toothbrush, toothpaste, and more.
For details on amenities, please check each individual room page.

We also provide each guest with complimentary coffee (MACHIYA Coffee Original Blend),
tea (green tea and black tea), and water.
Can we get in touch if we have any problems during our stay?
Our front desk staff is available 24 hours.

From your room: Pick up the telephone receiver located in your room to connect to our front desk directly.

Access/Car Parking

How can I access your hotel?
Access from Takayama Station
1. Take the East exit of Takayama Station and turn right on the main road.
2. Turn left at the second traffic light.
3. Continue straight and at the second set of traffic lights, turn left.
Walk for approximately 5m, and THE MACHIYA HOTEL TAKAYAMA will be on your right.

How do I get to the house by taxi?
We will include Japanese instructions to show your taxi driver in your reservation confirmation e-mail's PDF access map.
Do you have any car parking space?
Yes. A private parking lot is available a short walk from the hotel (reservations required). Please contact our staff in advance to reserve a parking space. If the parking lot is full, we will direct you to a nearby coin-operated parking lot.

Important Information

Are there any restrictions on noise in the machiya house?
As the hotel is located in a residential area, we respectfully ask you to take care when talking in the hallway or outside the hotel.
Is smoking allowed at your hotel?
As the hotel is a renovated, traditional Japanese architecture, our entire hotel is a non-smoking property.

We ask our guests to not smoke anywhere within the property, or near the entrance of the hotel. For designated smoking areas, please ask our front desk staff.
