How do I make a reservation?
We accept reservations up to 8 months in advance. Reservations can be made via the following methods:

1. Send us an e-mail (info@kaza-machiya.com)
2. Make a reservation via our website
3. Call us directly at (+81) 75-354-7570 (10:00 ~ 19:00)
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellation of a reservation at THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA may be subject to a cancellation fee. Please take a look at our cancellation policy listed in our Terms & Conditions for more details.
How can I make the payment?

Payment is required at the time of booking, and all charges will be processed in Japanese yen.
Accepted payment methods are as follows:
▪️ For online bookings (via our official website): Credit card (VISA, MasterCard, JCB, Diners Club, and American Express)
▪️ For direct bookings (via email or phone): PayPal or bank transfer

May I make a reservation on behalf of another guest?
Yes. When making your reservation, please let us know the name of the guest who will be staying at THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA, as well as the guests' contact number and email address.

If someone other than the guest checking in will be making the payment, please ensure that they are aware of all reservation and payment details.
Does the rate include tax and service charge?
Yes. All rates shown on our webpage include 10% consumption tax (incl. sales tax, VAT, excise duty, etc.) and service fees.

In Kyoto City, a city-mandated accommodation tax was implemented starting October 1, 2018.
Accordingly, we will charge a separate accommodation tax based on your accommodation fee as determined by the Kyoto City government. Please visit the link below for more information and details.

Is there an elevator?
There is no elevator; the 2F is accessible by stairs.
However, there are 2 rooms (KAZE Deluxe Room, THE KAZAHAYA Garden Suite) located on ground floor that offer step-free access.

Is the Hotel suitable for the elderly?
There are no age restrictions for guests staying at THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA.

We offer 6 rooms, with 2 rooms (KAZE Deluxe Room, THE KAZAHAYA Garden Suite) located on the ground floor. However, please note that the other 4 rooms are located on the 2F only accessible by stairs.

Is the Hotel suitable for children?
Yes. There are no age restrictions for guests staying with THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA.

Children 5 years of age and under may share a bed with another adult with no additional charge. In this case, please process the guest as "0" when making your reservation. (Up to 2 children, 5 years of age and younger, may stay free of charge.)

Please be aware that we may not be able to make room adjustments for child-proofing.
Can we have more than the maximum number of guests in one room?
Unfortunately, due to the Japanese Fire Service Act issued by the Kyoto City government, we are unable to accept more than the maximum number of guests indicated under each room.
Can I change the number of guests after making a reservation?
Yes. You may change the number of guests up to 2 days prior to your check-in date.

Please stop by the MACHIYA INNS & HOTELS Welcome Desk (located a 3-min walk from Kyoto Station / Central Exit, Kyoto Tower Side) before heading to THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA.

For stays from 2025/10/01
Please come directly to THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA between 13:00~19:00 to complete your guest registration (check-in).

If you plan on arriving earlier than 13:00 or after 19:00, please inform us at least 1 day before your arrival.

Can I leave my luggage at the front desk before my check-in time?
Yes. Please contact us in advance and we will provide you with additional instructions.

Can I send my luggage to THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA ahead of my arrival?
Yes. To send your luggage ahead of your arrival, please contact us at least 2 days before your arrival, and we will provide you with additional instructions.

We can only accept luggage that arrives on your check-in date or 1 day before.
If your luggage arrives 2 or more days prior to your check-in date, a storage fee of 500 yen per day, per item, will be charged starting from the day it arrives.

Can I check in after 19:00? (Late Check-in)
Please contact us by 18:00 if you will be checking in after 19:00. We will provide you with additional instructions.

Are Yukata (Japanese sleepwear) provided?
Yes. We have will prepare one yukata per guest.
How many children can stay without any charge?
We allow up to two (2) children, 5 years of age and under, to stay for free (when sharing a bed with an adult).
Can we bring pets?
We do not allow pets inside our hotel.
Do you offer rooms with kitchens?
Yes, our suites offer a private kitchen facilities for you during your stay.
We provide basic cooking utensils, cutlery, cups and plates, toaster, IH cooker, microwave, kettle, and more. Please take a look at each rooms page for more details and information:

What amenities are included?
For all rooms, towels, linen, bathroom amenities, and more are all included in your stay.For details on amenities, please check each individual room page.

We also provide each guest with complimentary coffee (MACHIYA Coffee Original Blend), tea (green tea and black tea), and water bottles.
Do you have any connecting rooms?
There are no connecting rooms. However, it is possible to reserve multiple rooms and suites that are close to each other, depending on availability.
Do you have an emergency contact number?
Yes. An emergency telephone is available in the 1F lounge. Guests can use this phone to contact our guest services team directly in the event of an emergency.

For non-urgent matters or general inquiries, please contact our guest services team by email between 10:00 and 19:00.

Access/Car Parking

How can I access your hotel?
From Kyoto Station by Subway:
Take the Kyoto City Subway (Karasuma Line) heading towards ‘Kokusaikaikan’ Station.
Get off at ‘Shijo Station’, and walk to THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA for approximately 8-min.

How do I get to the house by taxi?
We will include Japanese instructions to show your taxi driver in your reservation confirmation e-mail. Please show the instructions to the taxi driver.
Do you have any car parking?
Our hotel does not have on-site parking.

However, there are several coin parking spaces located within walking distance.
Please contact us for additional information and recommendations on where to park during your stay.

Requests for our Guests

  • Our machiya accommodations follow the concept of “living like a local,” located in traditional neighborhoods and built as wooden townhouses connected to their neighbors. Because of this, sound may carry more easily than in modern buildings.
    We kindly ask that you be mindful of your voice and other sounds both inside the hotel and near the entrance or alleyways, to ensure a comfortable stay for all guests and our neighbors.
  • THE MACHIYA KAZAHAYA is a non-smoking hotel. If you would like to smoke, please ask our staff and we will be happy to direct you to the nearest designated smoking area.
