Reservations

How do I make a reservation?
We accept reservations up to 6 months in advance. Reservations can be made via the following methods:

1. Send us an e-mail (info@ume-machiya.com)
2. Make a reservation via our website
3. Call us directly at (+81)50-3786-2009 (10:00AM to 1:00PM / 2:00PM to 5:00PM (JST) Monday to Sunday)
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellation of any reservation made with THE MACHIYA KAMIUMEYA may be subject to a cancellation fee:

・15 days or more prior to Check-in Date
0% Cancellation Fee
Cancellation made:
・8 days to 14 days prior to Check-in Date
30% Cancellation Fee
Cancellation made:
・3 days to 7 days prior to Check-in Date
50% Cancellation Fee

・1 day to 2 days prior to Check-in Date
100% Cancellation Fee

・On Check-in Date / No Appearance

*Guests will be responsible for any transaction fees involved in the receiving and returning of payment
May I make a reservation on behalf of another guest?
Yes. When making your reservation, please let us know the name of the guest who will be staying at THE MACHIYA KAMIUMEYA, as well as the guests' contact number and email address.

If someone other than the guest checking in will be making the payment, please ensure that they are aware of all reservation and payment details.
Does the accommodation fee include tax?
All accommodation fees shown on our webpage include 10% consumption tax (incl. sales tax, VAT, excise duty, etc.) and service fees.

However, your accommodation fee will not include Kyoto's accommodation tax (implemented starting October 1, 2018).
(京都市自 2018年10月1日起开始征收住宿税)

Accordingly, we will charge a separate accommodation tax based on you accommodation fee as determined by the Kyoto City government, and ask for you to complete this payment upon check in. Please visit the link below for more information and details.

Is there an elevator?
There is no elevator available at THE MACHIYA KAMIUMEYA. All rooms located on the 2F are accessible by stairs only.

We have 4 rooms available on the 1F. If you could like to make a reservation for a 1F Room, please contact our staff directly.

Is the Hotel suitable for the elderly?
There are no age restrictions for guests staying at THE MACHIYA KAMIUMEYA.

However, if you have specific room requirements, please contact our staff prior to making a reservation so that we may confirm whether your requirements can be met.

Is the Hotel suitable for children?
Yes. There are no age restrictions for guests staying with THE MACHIYA KAMIUMEYA.

Children 5 years of age and under may share a bed with another adult with no additional charge. In this case, please process the guest as "0" when making your reservation. (Up to 2 children, 5 years of age and younger, may stay free of charge.)

Please be aware that we may not be able to make room adjustments for child-proofing.
Can we have more than the maximum number of guests in one room?
Unfortunately, due to the Japanese Fire Service Act issued by the Kyoto City government, we are unable to accept more than the maximum number of guests indicated under each room.
Can I change the number of guests after making a reservation?
Yes. You may change the number of guests up to 2 days prior to your check-in date.

Your Stay

How can I check in?
We will send all guests a "How to Check in" email after a reservation has been confirmed. Please kindly check the email before your arrival.

Can I leave my luggage somewhere before checking in?
Yes. You may leave your luggage at our MACHIYA INNS & HOTELS Check-in Desk between 10AM ~ 7PM.

Sending your luggage to Kyoto prior to your arrival:
Please do not send your luggage directly to THE MACHIYA KAMIUMEYA, and send it to our MACHIYA INNS & HOTELS Check-in Desk.

If you would like to send your luggage to our check-in desk prior to arrival, please inform us via email informing our staff with the number of luggages.

On the luggage delivery slip, please include the following information:
① Reservation name
② THE MACHIYA KAMIUMEYA
③ Check-in date
What time is check in/check out?
Room Check-in: 3PM~
Room Check-out: ~10AM

Our MACHIYA INNS & HOTELS Check-in Desk is available from 10AM should you plan to arrive in Kyoto early.
We offer free luggage storage before and after your check-out time.
Can I check in late?
Yes. We accept late check-ins.

If you will be arriving in Kyoto after 7PM, please kindly let our staff know in advance. We will provide you with additional instructions on how to enter THE MACHIYA KAMIUMEYA and your room after 7PM.

Are Yukata (Japanese sleepwear) provided?
Yes. We have will prepare one yukata per guest.
Can children stay for free?
We allow up to two (2) children, 5 years of age and under, to stay for free (when sharing a bed with an adult).
Are meals included?
We do not offer meals at THE MACHIYA KAMIUMEYA at the moment.
Can we bring pets?
We do not allow pets inside our hotel.
What amenities are included?
The following amenities are available in your room:
shampoo/conditioner/body soap, towels, bathroom amenities (toothbrush/toothpaste, razor, cotton set, body towel), complimentary coffee (MACHIYA Coffee Original Blend), tea (green tea and black tea), and water bottles.

Do you have any connecting rooms?
There are no connecting rooms. However, it is possible to reserve multiple rooms and suites that are close to each other, depending on availability.

Important Information

Are there any restrictions on noise in the machiya house?
No parties or events are allowed inside THE MACHIYA KAMIUMEYA at any time.

As the hotel is located in a residential area and this is a traditional wooden building, we respectfully ask you to take care when talking in the hallway or outside the accommodation (entrance).
Is smoking allowed at your hotel?
Our entire hotel is a non-smoking property.

We ask our guests to not smoke anywhere within the property, or near the entrance of the hotel. For designated smoking areas in Kyoto, please ask our front desk staff or use the ash trays located in front of most convenience stores. (There is a Lawson convenience store located a 5 min. walk from THE MACHIYA KAMIUMEYA). We thank you for your cooperation.
