On the first floor, you’ll not only find a relaxing sofa, but a ‘horigotatsu’ in the Japanese-style room. A ‘horigotatsu’ is a traditional Japanese table that’s low to the ground and has a sunken floor beneath so that you can comfortably stretch out your legs. Enjoy the view of the Japanese garden from here as you wind down after a day of exploring the city. Upstairs, you’ll have 2 separate bedrooms: a bright & airy Western-style bedroom complete with 2 double-size beds and a ‘tokonoma’ alcove, and a spacious Japanese-style room with high ceilings and tatami-lined floors.

This Kyoto house features a traditional Japanese space that has ‘tatami’ flooring, vibrant ‘kyo-karakami’ paper panels, and a ‘horigotatsu’ table. The ‘horigotatsu’ table is low table with a recessed flooring beneath, that will allow you to stretch out your legs comfortably. This is the perfect place to enjoy a meal or relax after a day of exploring Kyoto city.

You’ll also have the perfect view of the ‘tsuboniwa’ garden. The garden in this traditional Japanese house features Japanese camelia and ‘momiji’ maple leaves that flourish with the seasons.

This luxurious bath is the perfect place to retreat to after a day of exploring Kyoto city. Enjoy a view of the ‘tsuboniwa’ garden while relaxing in a hot bath, or rejuvenate underneath the waterfall shower. This Kyoto house comes with our custom bath amenities: shampoo, conditioner and body soap.

There is also a spacious wash basin area to help you get ready for the day or wind down in the evening. A modern washing machine with dryer function is available for use (laundry detergent provided), convenient for both short and long-term stays.

This bedroom features 2 double beds while also having elements of a classic Japanese ‘washitsu’ room. This bedroom is a peaceful place to relax after a day of sightseeing in Kyoto city.

For an authentic Japanese experience, sleep on futon beds inside this classic Japanese-style bedroom. Wooden beams from this traditional Japanese house’s original architecture strecth across the high ceiling while the floor is lined in tatami mats. Open the blinds to let in light, or use black-out blinds at night for better sleep.

Enjoy the freedom of preparing your own light meals and snacks in the comfort of your accommodation. This Kyoto house has a renovated kitchen with includes: IH stove top, microwave, toaster, rice cooker, tableware, cookware, and more. We recommend stopping by Kyoto’s famous Nishiki Market, only a short walk away, to pick up local ingredients and cuisine to enjoy during your stay at ‘Marikoji’ holiday house.

‘Marikoji’ machiya house is located in downtown Kyoto – just a short walk from the Gion area & Nishiki Market. This traditional Japanese house also offers convenient access to Kyoto’s most famous sightseeing spots.

Take a short walk to Nishiki Market, a 400-year old shopping street lined by more than one hundred shops and restaurants. Pick up interesting local ingredients and produce or take home some of the delicious prepared dishes that are on offer here. Head towards the east and explore the historical streets of Gion. Stop by some of the many temples and shrines that are hidden throughout the Gion area, while also doing some shopping.

This Kyoto house is approximately a 5 minute walk from both Shijo Station and Gojo Station. You’ll also only be a short walk away the nearest bus stop, making getting around Kyoto city as well as visiting famous sites like Fushimi Inari, Kiyomizudera Temple, Nijo Castle, Arashiyama, and more a breeze.
