The castle began construction in 1588 under Lord Kanamori Nagachika, but it was demolished later by order of the Tokugawa Shogunate about 100 years later. Shiroyama Park is a favorite destination for locals to enjoy nature within the city, as it is the largest park in Takayama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Getting to Shiroyama Park is part of the experience. After passing through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.machiya-inn-japan.com\/blog\/things-to-do-in-takayama-japan-takayama-old-town\/\">Takayama Old Town<\/a>, a gentle slope leads you up into the park itself. You\u2019ll feel the transition immediately, as the sounds of the city fade away to be replaced by the sounds of the breeze blowing through the trees. It\u2019s a popular local spot for a morning stroll and for visitors looking for something off the beaten path. From cherry blossoms in the spring to fall foliage in the autumn, the scenery is beautiful no matter the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The park is also great for families traveling with children. Besides the playground equipment available for use, the park is a great location to enjoy a picnic lunch for the family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Admission to Shiroyama Park is free, and there are restrooms available inside the park for visitor use.
