This is Masato from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.machiya-inn-japan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MACHIYA INNS &amp; HOTELS<\/a>. One of my favorite places to visit in Takayama is <em><strong>Hida no Sato<\/strong><\/em> \u2014 and in winter especially, it&#8217;s hard to beat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Hida no Sato<\/em><\/strong>, or Hida Folk Village, offers a look into Japan&#8217;s rural past. Spread across a hillside, the village is home to over 30 traditional thatched and shingled houses, known as <em>gassho-zukuri<\/em>, all relocated from across the Hida region and preserved as important cultural assets. You can step inside these <em>gassho-zukuri<\/em> homes, which have been transformed into an open-air museum. Take a look at old farming tools, household items, and everyday objects to get a vivid picture of what life once looked like here!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" \n  width=\"315\" \n  height=\"560\" \n  src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/k4mQks2516k?autoplay=1&#038;mute=1&#038;loop=1&#038;playlist=k4mQks2516k\" \n  frameborder=\"0\" \n  allowfullscreen \n  allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\">\n<\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In winter, the village takes on a completely different character. Thick snow settles over the distinctive <em>gassho<\/em>-style rooftops, and the large pond freezes over. The views toward the Japan Alps are stunning, and there&#8217;s a free telescope near the lookout point if you want to take a closer look.
